What is Retargeting?

While browsing the Internet, have you ever noticed ads following you around after you’ve recently left a website? Maybe it was a hardware store to look at new lawn mowers or that Full Bloom specialty coffee you keep hearing about. If you have ever browsed away from a website, seen an ad for that product you were just viewing, and returned to the website to complete the purchase, then you’ve been retargeted and converted. It’s a highly effective method of turning window shoppers into loyal customers, and that’s what we like talking about.

You see, retargeting can be highly beneficial to your brand, whether it’s a product- or service-based business. You lose a lot of customers and sales (and therefore money) when you don’t retarget. It’s easy and effective when you have experts (us) handling the details.

Let’s break it down.

Window shopping, according to the Urban Dictionary, is defined as “When one visits a store or mall to admire goods rather than to purchase them. The ‘shopper’ seems to be looking so intently at the glass in storefront windows that he appears to want to buy the window itself, hence ‘window shopping’.”

Retargeting takes your website (the window display) and the customer (that just looked in and kept walking) and reunites them (via ads) while they’re looking at other products. We serve the right ads to the right audience at the right times, in the places they visit the most. And that’s all it is. There are more avenues of retargeting that we will discuss later, but this is the meat and potatoes.
